Overview

This unique itinerary is a one-way driving safari to Tanzania’s very best wildlife areas. At the end of the safari, in the Serengeti, we fly you back to the Kilimanjaro airport, in time to connect with a flight out or connect with a flight to Zanzibar. With 6 days, you have time to experience northern Tanzania’s best wildlife viewing.

From November through May, we visit Lake Manyara, a scenic park with classic African big game and fantastic birdlife (over 400 species).  From June through October we visit Tarangire. Tarangire is a beautiful park filled with Baobabs and Acacias with a large variety of game such as zebras, buffalo,  giraffes, and waterbuck. Of note during this time are the massed elephants along the Tarangire river – a tremendous sight – and the healthy prides of lions.

From there, we head to the Ngorongoro. This is the largest intact crater in the world abundant with wild game including elephants, rhinos, cheetahs, lions, leopards, and hyenas.

You will also visit the Serengeti, Tanzania’s most famous and largest national park and one of the most spectacular parks in the world. The “endless plains” cover some 14,763 square kilometers including large plains, short grass plains, kopjes, and lakes.

More than 400 species of birds inhabit the park and many remain throughout the year. Because of this, Lake Manyara National Park is the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife. Visitors to the park can expect to see upwards of 100 different species of birds on any day. Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

Request for Early breakfast leave for Ngorongoro Crater with picnic lunch for full day crater tour. Ngorongoro is a deep, volcanic crater, the largest un flooded and unbroken caldera in the world which measures bout 20kms across, 600 meters deep and 300 sq kms. The Ngorongoro Crater is a breathtaking natural wonder. It is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. Sometimes described as an ‘eighth wonder of the world. It is home to approximately 30,000 animals, 25,000 being large mammals, mainly grazers – gazelles, buffalo, eland, hartebeest and warthog. You will not find giraffe since there is little to eat at tree level, nor Topi, because the competition with wildebeest is too fierce. On the ground floor, elephants are strangely mainly bulls. You can be lucky to sport the endangered black rhino in the crater floor. Before 6PM you will descend to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge or similar

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Balloon Ride Option)

Today you will decide with your guide who is your host and companion the time to wake up and spend the entire day in search of wildlife with the aim to spot all BIG 5. The Migration of wildebeests is also the unique phenomenon in this Park too. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November, and then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that neither drought, storm, gorge nor crocodile infested river can hold them back. You may either enjoy picnic lunch in middle of nowhere or hot lunch at your lodge and continue with afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa Lodge or similar. (Balloon Ride is an option today)
